Mahmood's controversial, yet to me perfectly reasonable and rational speech at The U.N. in which he questions the circumstances of 9/11, and the subsequent "War On Terror" and states that the domineering manner by which nations control and manage the world [namely through capitalism, sanctions,unilateralism and force ] has failed. [As is witnessed in the global uprisings and revolutions taking place]
I applaud him for being a true leader and having the strength, intellect and integrity to stand up to America and question it's actions. Too many other nations are fawning sycophants and follow America in blind obeiscance out of grovelling self interest.

Egypt Uprising
I find it incredibly powerful and inspiring that the Egyptian people, en mass, are refusing to tolerate the corrupt, totalitarian dictatorship and are peacefully rising up demanding justice and change. They have my full support and empathy.
May this moment in history serve as a lesson to all those abusing power and human rights and committing acts of corruption against the people of the world: Your time, too, will come. The people are the greatest in number, and united will never be defeated.

Julian Assange Melbourne Address
While there may be a litany of lies, manipulation and distortion of the truth and horrors in existence in the world, I believe that it imperative to keep a balanced perspective. These things are abhorrent because they exist in sharp contrast to what we value. War is terrible because we want peace; lies are terrible because we prize truth; manipulation is terrible because we prize freedom and so on and so forth.
I think it's important to be reminded of this, and when surveying the problems that exist in our society, seek to see the solutions delineated by the problems and of greater importance to them. It's easy to become overwhelmed and powerless in the face of global world issues, and unfortunately many cognizant people who would like to be able to effect change switch off and become apathetic.
However, I believe that by allowing awareness of the issues that we face to illustrate the positive qualities and actions that need to be be strengthened, it becomes a motivating fuel for action and the impetus for affirming higher values and outcomes.
Don't buy into the fear and allow it to colour your world. Let the shadows define the light.

And it just so happened that a nutjob did decide to 'help prescribe a solution' and opened fire at a "Congress On The Corner" event organised by Representative Gabrielle Gifford and her staff, killing 6 and injuring 14. Go figure..
Sarah Palin quickly withdrew these posters from her website and made a public statement offering condolences to the families..yada yada yada.. and, clearly feeling a bit self-conscious being implicated, bit back at finger pointers;

But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence that they purport to condemn. Critics of Palin are certainly not drawing a long bow to see a clear connection between her hair-brained, hateful rhetoric [ she urged her supporters with the rhetoric "Reload, not retreat" ] and the heinous event , so to accuse journalists of "manufacturing a blood libel" is a clear continuation of the same kind of inflammatory, idiotic vitriol.
A blood libel, if you aren't already aware, is a slur and accusation against Jewish people by Christians who believed that Jews used human blood, especially that of children, in sacrifices and as an essential ingredient for matzos bread made at Passover..This belief has been behind the long history of persecution of the Jewish people, and for Palin to use it so glibly to illustrate her victimhood is cultural insensitivity and ignorance in the extreme.
But never missing the opportunity to capitalize on a crisis, No Labels lobbyists [particularly speaker of the house John Boehner, and the minority leader, Nancy Pelosi ] are utilizing the situation to call for people to rise above partisanship [ and ..erm.. support their parties agenda to do away with the 'lunatic fringe' a.k.a. any voices of dissent. ]

But it started to make a little more sense after yesterdays announcement [3/1/11] that Goldman Sachs had invested in Facebook to the tune of $45Billion, valuing Facebook now at a cool $50Billion and overtaking Google in its reach.
So why exactly is Facebook worth so much to Goldman Sachs, the most profitable investment banking organisation, [or "vulture capitalists" as they're called by numerous politicians and commentators] ?? Surely it's not because they're interested in watching people play Farmville or seeing their messy drunk photos..
Goldman Sachs have been described by The Rolling Stone as "a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money". Their $1Trillion portfolio broadly comprises Investment Banking [ Financial Advisory (mergers and acquisitions, investitures, corporate defence activities, restructuring and spin-offs) and Underwriting (public offerings and private placements of equity, equity-related and debt instruments)], Trading and Principal Investments [ [interest rate and credit products, mortgage-backed securities and loans, currencies and commodities, structured and derivative products, trading in equities, equity-related products, equity derivatives, structured products and executing client trades in equities, options, and futures contracts on world markets, merchant banking investments and funds ], and Asset Management and Securities Services [investment advisory and financial planning services, investment products, clearing, financing, custody, securities lending, reporting services to institutional clients, hedge funds, mutual funds, and pension funds. The division generates revenues primarily in the form of interest rate spreads or fees ] Their assets include major power and gas utilities, oil companies, health care, casino, insurance, financial trading and debt consolidation companies, meat processing factories, hotel chains amongst others, and they are involved in advising and brokering on in such deals as the privatization of major highways in Indiana, Texas and Chicago and selling them to foreign investors. A significant sector of their profit share comes from controlling financial interest in trading and principal investments on things like interest rates, credit products, mortgage-backed securities and loans- many of which were the kind of high risk, high return sub-prime loans that brought about the advent of the global financial crisis. So culpable were Goldman Sachs in promoting unfair home loans that they were investigated by the Massachusetts attorney general’s office. As there are a significant number of former Goldman Sachs employees who have gone on to hold key position in the U.S. administration, notably including Henry Paulson who was the Treasury Secretary from 2006-2009, some noses could have been put out of joint and so on May 10, 2009, Goldman Sachs paid $60Million to end the investigation.
It was the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the global financial services company that had greedily relied too heavily on the high risk sub-prime mortgages, that had brought the global financial crisis into effect, bringing the financial world to it's knees. When asked whether the U.S. treasury should have stepped forward to save the bank, Henry Paulson, [yes the same Henry Paulson who is former CEO, significant share holder, and hedge fund controller of Goldman Sachs.. responded saying,"I never once considered that it was appropriate to put taxpayer money on the line [in resolving Lehman Brothers]". This was on the 15th of Sept 2008.
However on the evening of the 16th of September 2008, the Federal Reserve Bank announced that the New York division were to bail out A.I.G. [The American International Group, the American Insurance Corporation]. Even though Goldman Sachs had seen the crisis coming and had off-loaded a lot of their junk-loans, doing quite well for themselves in the process, and were well insured they could have 'potentially' lost billions. Lucky for them, they had their good friend Stephen Friedman, a shareholder and former director of Goldman Sachs on their side as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank, Robert Rubin [who was employed at Goldman Sachs for 26 years ] working as Barak Obama's economic advisor as well, of course, as their homie US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson [ the same Henry Paulson who was named runner up Time: Person Of The Year in regards to the global financial crisis. Time commented, ""if there is a face to this financial debacle, it is now his."] Apparently he and BFF Lloyd Blankfein, current CEO of Goldman Sachs, were on the phone in the order of 24 times a day when the AIG deal was being negotiated. The list of former Goldman Sachs executives that have gone on to hold key positions in the U.S.administration and other powerful global institutions is long and exhaustive and has earned them the nickname "Government Sachs".
But so that it didn't seem SO flagrantly corrupt, the crafty devils at Goldman Sachs cooked the books in December 2008, shifting large write-downs to create an "orphan month'- reporting a net loss of USD $780Million for the month along with net profit of USD $ 1.81Billion for Jan-March. Boo hoo.. But miraculously the next quarter was significantly higher than average, and with the millions of dollars worth of taxpayers money that they got through the AIG deal, they paid themselves million dollar bonuses and at the end of 2009 reported it's most profitable year ever.
Naturally this enraged the American people who had lost their homes, jobs, pension funds and investments and were going to suffer the effects of cutbacks on social services that stem from the governments USD $12 Trillion [yes, that's trillion with a "T"] bail out package for greedy bankers who had recklessly gambled with their money.
Michael Moore lead a protest outside the Goldman Sachs headquarters, demanding that the bailout money be put back in the American Trust. Goldman Sachs were non-responsive.
Lloyd C. Blankfein [who takes home at least USD $68 Million per annum, not to speak of bonuses..] is aware that people would jump for joy if he were to slit his wrists, though remains self-righteous. “We’re very important,” he chortled in an interview with The Times of London. “We help companies to grow by helping them to raise capital. Companies that grow create wealth. This, in turn, allows people to have jobs that create more growth and more wealth. It’s a virtuous cycle.”
"We're just doing God's work", he glibly remarks.
While this apparently was his idea of a joke, it is even more of a joke that Goldman Sachs representatives endeavour to convince people that this is true. Speaking at a discussion about morality and markets [and I haven't even gotten to the punch line..] at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, Brian Griffiths [ Goldman Sachs' international vice chairman and former advisor to Margaret Thatcher ] sermonised that giant paychecks for bankers were an 'economic necessity', saying, “We have to tolerate the inequality as a way to achieve greater prosperity and opportunity for all,”.
Excuse me?? We have to ...tolerate the inequality... as a way to achieve greater prosperity and opportunity for all??
That sounds like the biggest load of nonsensical, hypocritical bollocks to me.
Goldman Sachs is the sort of company that has artificially fixed food trading prices for increased profit, resulting in starvation amongst many, and it has proven it's track record of moral bankruptcy on scores of occasions.
This is why people ought to be very concerned about the fact that they now have a major controlling interest in Facebook. There has been a steady erosion of civic legal rights to privacy and protection since 9/11, and social media platforms have lured millions of people around the world to give over access to their personal information, essentially making the line between public and private disappear. Facebook have already demonstrated that they cannot be trusted to protect your personal information, and profit from data-mining, surveillance, and tracking the data-trail of your every move online.
To hand this kind of power over to an enormous company that already has the world over a barrel in almost as many ways as possible has terrible implications. It is simply too much power for one entity to have, and there is too much likelihood that this power will be abused.
People can take that power back by choosing to disengage from their enterprises, and realising that they have a choice.
I personally will be committing Facebook suicide and suggest that you think about doing so as well.

While the supposed aim of the movement is to end hyper-partisanship in politics [As their slogan reads,"Not Left. Not Right. Forward"], this seemingly reasonable standpoint of the middle way is simply impossible given the blatantly gross agenda and vested interests of it's proponents. In effect, the 'No labels' movement really intend to do away with debate and dissent, and allow the cabal of large corporate entities to have unfettered power and ability to manipulate the world to further their interests in essentially every sphere of industry.

Defending Helen Thomas
[Note the up-beat- even jubilant tone that Rabbi1 has framed this video. Triumphantly exclaiming "Anti-Semitism" and reveling in their power to end the distinguished career of a senior dean of the White House Press Corp.]

The original 'anti-semitic' comments made by Helen Thomas, deceptively procured by a rabbi with a concealed video camera. While quite a blunt remark, it is on the more extreme end of a very reasonable argument. There is nothing factually untrue about her opinion, which was expressed off the cuff when she was unaware that she was being recorded with being given the opportunity or time to make a balanced statement.
However, having sympathy for the plight of Palestinian people is not 'anti-semitic'. It is a fact that they their homes have been bulldozed and they have been forcefully evicted from where have lived for centuries, and subjected to a brutal military occupation. Israeli settlements are encroaching further and further into Palestinian territories- a red rag in the face of understandably angry and desperate Palestinians- while supposedly in peace negotiations. Israel routinely breaks international laws and agreements and does so much that is legally, politically and morally reprehensible, yet plays the victim and cries 'anti-semitism' when any justified criticism is leveled at them.

The word anti-semitism is fallacious and redundant. It is derived from the Greek words 'anti'-meaning against, and 'semite'-meaning the people of Shem. The people of Shem span Egypt, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Western Sahara, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, the Spanish Canary Islands and Portuguese Madeira Islands and the North Atlantic Ocean northwest of the African mainland.
It was a term coined in 1879 when the Zionist movement was first gathering momentum, and Theodore Hertzl, the founder of Zionism and visionary of the modern political state of Israel, was quick to recognize the usefulness of anti-semitism to helping to add validity to their claim that Jew's needed to have their own separate state in order to escape persecution. Hertlz and his lobbyists actively sought to intensify anti-semitism in order to further the cause of the Zionist political agenda.

The Zionists were quite happy for some of their own to be put to death. In fact on Feb 1 1940 Henry Montor, executive vice-president of the United Jewish Appeal refused to assist a shipload of Jewish refugees stranded on the Danube River, stating that,"Palestine cannot be flooded with... old people or with undesirables."
Contrary to popular belief, the creation of the state of Israel was not a concession made to Jewish people after the holocaust, [with the implied subtext of "what kind of monster would deny us that right after what we suffered at the hands of the Nazi's?" It's the gypsies who should most feel persecuted. The Jewish people were nearly the last to be rounded up ], the creation of the state of Israel was brokered in 1916 as part of the secret Sykes–Picot Agreement between the UK and France.
Germany had all entirely defeated France and England in WW1, and Germany had offered a peace truce, but in the craftiest of political manoevers the Zionists [ who had established control over the banking, media and political systems in America ] bargained that if they brought America into the war, which would secure their victory, the United Kingdom would give them Palestine.
Benjamin Freedman, the prominent former Jew who spoke out against Zionism, puts it aptly;
"It's absolutely absurd that Great Britain -- that never had any connection or any interest or any right in what is known as Palestine --should offer it as coin of the realm to pay the Zionists for bringing the United States into the war.'

While there were many opportunities to save thousands of Jewish people by evacuating them to neighbouring countries, the Zionist actively sought to prohibit it from happening, insisting that other countries didn't accept Jews and that the only place that they should be is Palestine. Yitzchak Greenbaum, a vocal Zionist proponent stated, "One Cow in Palestine is worth more than all the Jews in Poland".
Another Zionist spokesperson, Ben-Gurion proclaimed in 1938;
"If I knew it was possible to save all the children in Germany by taking them to England, and only half of the children by taking them to Eretz Israel, I would choose the second solution. For we must take into account not only the lives of these children but also the history of the people of Israel."
A Zionist “religious” leader, Rabbi Klaussner made the following comment at The Jewish American Conference on May 2nd, 1948;
"I am convinced people must be forced to go to Palestine...For them, an American dollar appears as the highest of goals. By the word "force", I am suggesting a programme. It served for the evacuation of the Jews in Poland, and in the history of the 'Exodus'... To apply this programme we must, instead of providing 'displaced persons' with comfort, create the greatest possible discomfort for them...At a second stage, a procedure calling upon the Haganah to harass the Jews."
And force them they did.. Jewish people who had been living quite happily alongside their respective country men in a number of countries including Yemen, Morocco, Iraq, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia until that were were terrorised and forcefully encouraged to relocate to Palestine with a campaign of terrorist activities which included the bribery of officials and bombing of mosques.
To this day, Jewish people are encouraged to leave their home countries to live in the Israeli homeland where they can live in homes and territories that innocent Palestinians have been forcably evicted from because they have been manipulated into thinking that it's their "birth right".
And for what? The foundational principles of the Zionist movement are atheistic- even opposed to religion. Zionist principles, actions and indeed even the creation of the state of Israel runs diametrically counter to the principles and beliefs of traditional Judaism. A core part of Jewish religious belief is that they were made exiles from the land that the Torah states was given to them, and that it was their fate to live in other nations until their prophesied redemption upon the return of Elijah and Moshiach.
"We were given the Holy Land by G-d in order to be able to study and practice the Torah without disturbance and to attain levels of holiness difficult to attain outside of the Holy Land. We abused the privilege and we were expelled. During WW2, there were numerous offers of opportunities presented to the Zionists of way to save the Jewish people, all of which were refused in favour of using the casualties of the inevitable Jewish casualties to the gas chamber as political collateral. This horrendous fact renders any justification for atrocious acts committed by Zionist Israel as being justified in the light of the Holocaust null and void, and is a shocking indictment of the rotten core of corruption and lies that is the foundation of the state of "Israel".
What happened during the Holocaust was horrific beyond belief, and in no way can it be justified, but nor can the fact that the Zionist leaders were complicit of sealing the fate of millions of Jewish people so that they could get political leverage.

This documentary [from Witness, Al-Jazeera] tells the horrific story of Khalid El-Masri, the lebanese born German citizen who was taken off the street when holidaying in Macedonia as American forces believed he was an Al Qaeda agent because his name was similar to that of an Al Qaeda suspect. He was denied any contact with his family or German authorities, locked up in appalling conditions [in a covert CIA interrogation centre in Afganistan called 'The Salt Pit'], humiliated, sodomized and tortured for 5 months. El-Masri and several other inmates went on a hunger strike which lasted for almost a month and he demanded that they either release him immediately, allow him to contact the German authorities, or have him die of starvation.
Leaked diplomatic cables from Wikileaks reveal that the US administration was angered when the German authorities put out arrest warrants for some of those implicit in the deplorable affair and put significant pressure on the German government to weigh carefully the ramifications to their bi-lateral relationship if they were to pursue the charges.
He was then dumped in the woods in a remote region of Albania in the middle of the night, and walked off believing that he was going to be shot in the back.
In May 2006 U.S. Federal District Judge T.S. Ellis, III in Washington dismissed a lawsuit El-Masri filed against the CIA and three private companies allegedly involved with his transport, explaining that a public trial would "present a grave risk of injury to national security."
He is still in the process of appeal and fighting for justice, and it is imperative that all involved in the US administration be held accountable and that this kind of perversion of justice be stopped.

Ad hominem
A Latin phrase that has come to mean attacking one's opponent, as opposed to attacking their arguments.
Ad nauseam
This argument approach uses tireless repetition of an idea. An idea, especially a simple slogan, that is repeated enough times, may begin to be taken as the truth. This approach works best when media sources are limited or controlled by the propagator.
Appeal to authority
Appeals to authority cite prominent figures to support a position, idea, argument, or course of action.
Appeal to fear
Appeals to fear and seeks to build support by instilling anxieties and panic in the general population, for example, Joseph Goebbels exploited Theodore Kaufman's Germany Must Perish! to claim that the Allies sought the extermination of the German people.
Appeal to prejudice
Using loaded or emotive terms to attach value or moral goodness to believing the proposition. Used in biased or misleading ways.
Bandwagon
Bandwagon and "inevitable-victory" appeals attempt to persuade the target audience to join in and take the course of action that "everyone else is taking".
Inevitable victory
Invites those not already on the bandwagon to join those already on the road to certain victory. Those already or at least partially on the bandwagon are reassured that staying aboard is their best course of action.
Join the crowd
This technique reinforces people's natural desire to be on the winning side. This technique is used to convince the audience that a program is an expression of an irresistible mass movement and that it is in their best interest to join.
Beautiful people
The type of propaganda that deals with famous people or depicts attractive, happy people. This makes other people think that if they buy a product or follow a certain ideology, they too will be happy or successful.
Big Lie
The repeated articulation of a complex of events that justify subsequent action. The descriptions of these events have elements of truth, and the "big lie" generalizations merge and eventually supplant the public's accurate perception of the underlying events. After World War I the German Stab in the back explanation of the cause of their defeat became a justification for Nazi re-militarization and revanchist aggression.
Black-and-white fallacy
Presenting only two choices, with the product or idea being propagated as the better choice. For example: "You're either with us, or against us...."
Classical conditioning
All vertebrates, including humans, respond to classical conditioning. That is, if object A is always present when object B is present and object B causes a negative physical reaction (e.g., disgust, pleasure) then we will when presented with object A when object B is not present, we will experience the same feelings.
Cognitive dissonance
People desire to be consistent. Suppose a pollster finds that a certain group of people hates his candidate for senator but love actor A. They use actor A's endorsement of their candidate to change people's minds because people cannot tolerate inconsistency. They are forced to either to dislike the actor or like the candidate.
Common man
The "plain folks" or "common man" approach attempts to convince the audience that the propagandist's positions reflect the common sense of the people. It is designed to win the confidence of the audience by communicating in the common manner and style of the target audience. Propagandists use ordinary language and mannerisms (and clothe their message in face-to-face and audiovisual communications) in attempting to identify their point of view with that of the average person. For example, a propaganda leaflet may make an argument on a macroeconomic issue, such as unemployment insurance benefits, using everyday terms: "Given that the country has little money during this recession, we should stop paying unemployment benefits to those who do not work, because that is like maxing out all your credit cards during a tight period, when you should be tightening your belt."
Cult of personality
A cult of personality arises when an individual uses mass media to create an idealized and heroic public image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise. The hero personality then advocates the positions that the propagandist desires to promote. For example, modern propagandists hire popular personalities to promote their ideas and/or products.
Demonizing the enemy
Making individuals from the opposing nation, from a different ethnic group, or those who support the opposing viewpoint appear to be subhuman (e.g., the Vietnam War-era term "gooks" for National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam aka Vietcong, or "VC", soldiers), worthless, or immoral, through suggestion or false accusations. Dehumanizing is also a termed used synonymously with demonizing, the latter usually serves as an aspect of the former.
Dictat
This technique hopes to simplify the decision making process by using images and words to tell the audience exactly what actions to take, eliminating any other possible choices. Authority figures can be used to give the order, overlapping it with the Appeal to authority technique, but not necessarily. The Uncle Sam "I want you" image is an example of this technique.
Disinformation
The creation or deletion of information from public records, in the purpose of making a false record of an event or the actions of a person or organization, including outright forgery of photographs, motion pictures, broadcasts, and sound recordings as well as printed documents.
Door-in-the-face technique
Is used to increase a person's latitude of acceptance. For example, if a salesperson wants to sell an item for $100 but the public is only willing to pay $50, the salesperson first offers the item at a higher price (e.g., $200) and subsequently reduces the price to $100 to make it seem like a good deal.
Euphoria
The use of an event that generates euphoria or happiness, or using an appealing event to boost morale. Euphoria can be created by declaring a holiday, making luxury items available, or mounting a military parade with marching bands and patriotic messages.
Fear, uncertainty and doubt
An attempt to influence public perception by disseminating negative and dubious/false information designed to undermine the credibility of their beliefs.
Flag-waving
An attempt to justify an action on the grounds that doing so will make one more patriotic, or in some way benefit a country, group or idea the targeted audience supports.
Foot-in-the-door technique
Often used by recruiters and salesmen. For example, a member of the opposite sex walks up to the victim and pins a flower or gives a small gift to the victim. The victim says thanks and now they have incurred a psychological debt to the perpetrator. The person eventually asks for a larger favor (e.g., a donation or to buy something far more expensive). The unwritten social contract between the victim and perpetrator causes the victim to feel obligated to reciprocate by agreeing to do the larger favor or buy the more expensive gift.
Glittering generalities
Glittering generalities are emotionally appealing words that are applied to a product or idea, but present no concrete argument or analysis. A famous example is the campaign slogan "Ford has a better idea!" This technique has also been referred to as the PT Barnum effect.
Half-truth
A half-truth is a deceptive statement, which may come in several forms and includes some element of truth. The statement might be partly true, the statement may be totally true but only part of the whole truth, or it may utilize some deceptive element, such as improper punctuation, or double meaning, especially if the intent is to deceive, evade, blame or misrepresent the truth.
Labeling
A euphemism is used when the propagandist attempts to increase the perceived quality, credibility, or credence of a particular ideal. A Dysphemism is used when the intent of the propagandist is to discredit, diminish the perceived quality, or hurt the perceived righteousness of the Mark. By creating a "label" or "category" or "faction" of a population, it is much easier to make an example of these larger bodies, because they can uplift or defame the Mark without actually incurring legal-defamation. Example: "Liberal" is a dysphemism intended to diminish the perceived credibility of a particular Mark. By taking a displeasing argument presented by a Mark, the propagandist can quote that person, and then attack "liberals" in an attempt to both (1) create a political battle-ax of unaccountable aggression and (2) diminish the quality of the Mark. If the propagandist uses the label on too-many perceivably credible individuals, muddying up the word can be done by broadcasting bad-examples of "liberals" into the media. Labeling can be thought of as a sub-set of Guilt by association, another logical fallacy.
Latitudes of acceptance
If a person's message is outside the bounds of acceptance for an individual and group, most techniques will engender psychological reactance (simply hearing the argument will make the message even less acceptable). There are two techniques for increasing the bounds of acceptance. First, one can take a more even extreme position that will make more moderate positions seem more acceptable. This is similar to the Door-in-the-Face technique. Alternatively, one can moderate one's own position to the edge of the latitude of acceptance and then over time slowly move to the position that was previously.[9]
Love bombing
Used to recruit members to a cult or ideology by having a group of individuals cut off a person from their existing social support and replace it entirely with members of the group who deliberately bombard the person with affection in an attempt to isolate the person from their prior beliefs and value system—see Milieu control.
Lying and deception
Lying and deception can be the basis of many propaganda techniques including Ad Homimen arguments, Big-Lie, Defamation, Door-in-the-Face, Half-truth, Name-calling or any other technique that is based on dishonesty or deception. For example, many politicians have been found to frequently stretch or break the truth.
Managing the news
According to Adolf Hitler's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels "The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over."[10] This idea is consistent with the principle of classical conditioning as well as the idea of "Staying on Message."

Name-calling
Propagandists use the name-calling technique to incite fears and arouse prejudices in their hearers in the intent that the bad names will cause hearers to construct a negative opinion about a group or set of beliefs or ideas that the propagandist wants hearers to denounce. The method is intended to provoke conclusions about a matter apart from impartial examinations of facts. Name-calling is thus a substitute for rational, fact-based arguments against the an idea or belief on its own merits.[11]
Obfuscation, intentional vagueness, confusion
Generalities are deliberately vague so that the audience may supply its own interpretations. The intention is to move the audience by use of undefined phrases, without analyzing their validity or attempting to determine their reasonableness or application. The intent is to cause people to draw their own interpretations rather than simply being presented with an explicit idea. In trying to "figure out" the propaganda, the audience forgoes judgment of the ideas presented. Their validity, reasonableness and application may still be considered.
Obtain disapproval or Reductio ad Hitlerum
This technique is used to persuade a target audience to disapprove of an action or idea by suggesting that the idea is popular with groups hated, feared, or held in contempt by the target audience. Thus if a group that supports a certain policy is led to believe that undesirable, subversive, or contemptible people support the same policy, then the members of the group may decide to change their original position. This is a form of bad logic, where a is said to include X, and b is said to include X, therefore, a = b.
Operant conditioning
Operant conditioning involves learning through imitation. For example, watching an appealing person buy products or endorse positions teaches a person to buy the product or endorse the position. Operant conditioning is the underlying principle behind the Ad Nauseam, Slogan and other repetition public relations campaigns.
Oversimplification
Favorable generalities are used to provide simple answers to complex social, political, economic, or military problems.
Pensée unique
Enforced reduction of discussion by use of overly simplistic phrases or arguments (e.g., "There is no alternative to war.")
Quotes out of context
Selectively editing quotes to change meanings—political documentaries designed to discredit an opponent or an opposing political viewpoint often make use of this technique.
Rationalization (making excuses)
Individuals or groups may use favorable generalities to rationalize questionable acts or beliefs. Vague and pleasant phrases are often used to justify such actions or beliefs.
Red herring
Presenting data or issues that, while compelling, are irrelevant to the argument at hand, and then claiming that it validates the argument.
Repetition
This is the repeating of a certain symbol or slogan so that the audience remembers it. This could be in the form of a jingle or an image placed on nearly everything in the picture/scene.
Scapegoating
Assigning blame to an individual or group, thus alleviating feelings of guilt from responsible parties and/or distracting attention from the need to fix the problem for which blame is being assigned.
Slogans
A slogan is a brief, striking phrase that may include labeling and stereotyping. Although slogans may be enlisted to support reasoned ideas, in practice they tend to act only as emotional appeals. Opponents of the US's invasion and occupation of Iraq use the slogan "blood for oil" to suggest that the invasion and its human losses was done to access Iraq's oil riches. On the other hand, supporters who argue that the US should continue to fight in Iraq use the slogan "cut and run" to suggest withdrawal is cowardly or weak.
Stereotyping
This technique attempts to arouse prejudices in an audience by labeling the object of the propaganda campaign as something the target audience fears, hates, loathes, or finds undesirable. For instance, reporting on a foreign country or social group may focus on the stereotypical traits that the reader expects, even though they are far from being representative of the whole country or group; such reporting often focuses on the anecdotal. In graphic propaganda, including war posters, this might include portraying enemies with stereotyped racial features.
Straw man
A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position. To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.
Testimonial
Testimonials are quotations, in or out of context, especially cited to support or reject a given policy, action, program, or personality. The reputation or the role (expert, respected public figure, etc.) of the individual giving the statement is exploited. The testimonial places the official sanction of a respected person or authority on a propaganda message. This is done in an effort to cause the target audience to identify itself with the authority or to accept the authority's opinions and beliefs as its own.
Third party technique
Works on the principle that people are more willing to accept an argument from a seemingly independent source of information than from someone with a stake in the outcome. It is a marketing strategy commonly employed by Public Relations (PR) firms, that involves placing a premeditated message in the "mouth of the media." Third party technique can take many forms, ranging from the hiring of journalists to report the organization in a favorable light, to using scientists within the organization to present their perhaps prejudicial findings to the public. Frequently astroturf groups or front groups are used to deliver the message.
Foreign governments, particularly those that own marketable commercial products or services, often promote their interests and positions through the advertising of those goods because the target audience is not only largely unaware of the forum as vehicle for foreign messaging but also willing to receive the message while in a mental state of absorbing information from advertisements during television commercial breaks, while reading a periodical, or while passing by billboards in public spaces. A prime example of this messaging technique is advertising campaigns to promote international travel. While advertising foreign destinations and services may stem from the typical goal of increasing revenue by drawing more tourism, some travel campaigns carry the additional or alternative intended purpose of promoting good sentiments or improving existing ones among the target audience towards a given nation or region. It is common for advertising promoting foreign countries to be produced and distributed by the tourism ministries of those countries, so these ads often carry political statements and/or depictions of the foreign government's desired international public perception. Additionally, a wide range of foreign airlines and travel-related services which advertise separately from the destinations, themselves, are owned by their respective governments; examples include, though are not limited to, the Emirates airline (Dubai), Singapore Airlines (Singapore), Qatar Airways (Qatar), China Airlines (Taiwan/Republic of China), and Air China (People's Republic of China). Transfer
Also known as association, this is a technique that involves projecting the positive or negative qualities of one person, entity, object, or value onto another to make the second more acceptable or to discredit it. It evokes an emotional response, which stimulates the target to identify with recognized authorities. Often highly visual, this technique often utilizes symbols (e.g. swastikas) superimposed over other visual images (e.g. logos). These symbols may be used in place of words.
Unstated assumption
This technique is used when the idea the propagandist wants to plant would seem less credible if explicitly stated. The concept is instead repeatedly assumed or implied.
Virtue words
These are words in the value system of the target audience that produce a positive image when attached to a person or issue. Peace, happiness, security, wise leadership, freedom, "The Truth", etc. are virtue words. Many see religiosity as a virtue, making associations to this quality affectively beneficial. Their use is considered of the Transfer propaganda technique.

Bradley Manning, American hero
Bradley Manning, the now world famous 22 year old miltary analyst allegedly responsible for leaking the cache of classified material to Wikileaks, is still languishing in solitary confinement after four miserable months.
Being denied sunlight, mental stimulation, human contact, the ability to exercise and basic human needs would take it's toll on anyone, but that coupled with the grave concern for his outcome and whatever other tortuous methods [that the U.S. military seem to keen on] are being metted out to him amount to a very grim picture.
Understandably, the U.S. military are embarrassed and are looking for someone to blame and shift the focus onto, but they cannot escape the fact that Bradley Manning merely revealed their own wrongdoing and they are responsible for the way that there has been such an erosion of morality within their ranks.
Bradley Manning has displayed incredible moral backbone and courage for standing up for truth and justice against the Goliath of the U.S. military and administration.
But, what kind of person wouldn't do the same when seeing mass deception of war crimes and atrocities committed in a war that was waged in the name of a lie?
So, as a human, put yourself in his shoes and appreciate the bravery and honour of his actions and consider the huge debt that we all owe him now and support the campaign for his release.
Michael Moore has now joined the campaign to free Manning, along with Daniel Ellsburg and numerous others and puts it aptly in saying, "To suggest that lives were put in danger by the release of the WikiLeaks documents is the most cynical of statements," Moore said.
"Lives were put in danger the night we invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq, an act that had nothing to do with what the Bradley Mannings of this country signed up for: to defend our people from attack. It was a war based on a complete lie and lives were not only put in danger, hundreds of thousands of them were exterminated.
"For those who organised this massacre to point a finger at Bradley Manning is the ultimate example of Orwellian hypocrisy."

Julian Assange, of Wikileaks who released this video along with the host of other classified material did so out of moral outrage and out of social responsibility. The fact that he has now been jailed under false pretenses without charge due to American political pressure [when there is no law that he is known to be in violation of] is further evidence of America's moral culpability and illegality. They do not deserve the power that they have assumed in the world and it is now time for the people to take it from them and hold them accountable.
This is really horrific.. Fallijia, one of the Iraqi areas that had the strongest resistance against American forces, was bombed to pieces by the U.S. and the rubble bulldozed into the river. Now there is such a high incidence of birth defects occurring there that Fallujian women are advised to not have children. Astoundingly foregoing the need to pee, he spoke red-faced, enraged and articulate, about the economic and social insanity of the proposed bill to extend major tax cuts for the mega rich in a bid to prevent it.
In a time of global financial crisis caused by the recklessness of the banks and Wall st. brokers who were bailed out to the tune of $11.6 trillion [which the tax payer and working people will have to pay for], it is definitely a bit rich that the richest .3 of 1% of the worlds wealthiest people should be getting tax breaks.
The cost of these tax breaks will again be shouldered by the people, and it would be health, education and social services that would be cut to fund it.
Bernie Sanders has my deepest respect and admiration for standing up for truth and justice- a shining and rare example of such amid a rotten core of corruption and self-interest.
